Kids Carnival

The students have arrived from Ontario and have actually been here for almost 2 weeks. Things have been really busy with them starting up 4 new English classes, woman's ministry activities, taking Spanish lessons and the guys doing construction. Also we are going to be putting boots in a tienda in another touristic city which is super exciting. Anyways, on Saturdays we are doing missional adventures which last week meant playing in the soccer field with the people of Tizate, playing games with the kids and just hanging out with the people here. Then this past Saturday we had a kids carnival which turned out really well. I was in charge of face painting. After ahwile it got a little out of hand with the kids painting all of our faces. Some of their face designs were more artistic than others, but it was all really fun! Here are some pictures of the day. We also had a 3 legged race station, a fishing station, a bowling station, a pin the moustache on the person station, water balloons, and sidewalk chalk drawing. It was a ton of fun. In the afternoon we all went out for a nice goodbye dinner with Robert (our director in Canada) and Yvonne (our ESL leader) as they left this morning. We went to Hotel Antigua and swam before dinner which was just beautiful and then hung out in Antigua before coming home. It was a glorious day! I can't seem to post pics right now, but will do it soon.

Cesar's Baby Baptism

So today we were invited for lunch to Veronica's house because her cousin's baby, Cesar, was getting baptized in the Catholic Church. We agreed and then asked what when and where the baptism would be. She said in Antigua in the big church. So Amber and I went this morning only to find that we were the only ones there as like a support. Only us, the baby's mom and his God Parents. Crazy eh? So then we go the lunch and everyone shows up there, at different times of course. It's like a big party with a HUGE stereo system blasting music, so loud you cannot visit and you can hear it all throughout the town. Anyways, we gave the baby it's gift (good thing we got something with neutral colors because we thought it was a girl, but it's a boy! jajaja) and then had lunch. After lunch we kinda took off due to the fact that Amber was getting a headache due to the extremely loud music. The party is still going on, I think they will begin to dance soon, they handed out shots of coke and alcohol. Anyways, here's a pic of me and the baby, it looks like he's happier with me than mommy doesn't it? :) jajaja

Happy Canada Day!

Just wanna say, I MISS CANADA and wish everyone a belated Happy Canada Day. I was going to post this yesterday but ran out of time. I was thinking about how wonderful it would be to be camping at the lake and then driving to Kenora to watch the fireworks over the lake. I miss Canada and everyone!

Josue's 1st Bday!

So they had the birthday party for Josue and it was a much larger even than I had anticipated. Our corredor was filled with tables and streamers and balloons etc. There were probably like 40 people there and our family provided a meal of estofada with chicken, rice, beets, a rice milk drink called horchata, and wet cake which was actually really good. It's like a white cake that's kinda wet with cream and strawberries and peaches on it. I think our family is either more well off than I thought or they have been saving up a long time for this party because not only did they provide all this food etc, but they also gave out goodie bags to all the kids with toys and candy in it. Then, when I thought that was it, they passed out goodie bags to the adults with candy in them. I was shocked. Anyways, it was a good time. The kid got a lot of nice clothes. Good thing we picked something up eh Amber??? Ciao!

Who am I?

Well, I took out my briads with Amber's help as we watched 2 episodes of LOST. Speaking of lost, I lost a TON of hair as you can see from my brush. That was the day after taking them out, never mind the handfulls I lost the day before and in the shower etc. Needless to say my hair is straight again, but a lot thinner! Hopefully it'll go back to it's nice fullness soon. Ok, so who am I with this hairdoo? She's a Latin singer from Columbia...Yup, Shakira (at least that's what Amber and my ESL class said)! I guess I am turning more Latin everyday eh?
