Hmmm...

Do you ever wonder if you meet ppl for a specific reason? Yesterday, I met this guy at the gym from the states and we started out speaking Spanish and struggling he told me that he has only been learning for the past 3 days. He did increadibly well and was super nice so we chatted for a while. Then today I went to an tourism information room and he was there too. It was so weird, he's like "April! How are you?" Anyways, I'm sure I was a welcomed face to see as I think he is here alone. He told me to read a book, but I forget the name, about meeting people for specific reasons and destiny's. Anyways, that kinda stuck with me, and I wonder how often we will meet in the next few months and what might develop from this...maybe an opportunity to sell boots in the States???? Who knows. Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there. Check out Amber's blog, you can link to it from mine to read more crazy Tizate stories!

You know you've become Guatemalan when...

I think I have been in Guatemala a little too long :P jajaja. The other night while I was sleeping I started calling out to Amber Guatemalan style, "Amber, ch ch ch, Amber, ch ch ch." Out here, they don't usually just say 'hey Amber,' they use this ch ch sound like you are saying church, but leaving out the 'ur' and I was doing it in my sleep! Amber responded with "WHAT??? April you've gotta stop waking me up during the nite." as I had been sleep talking for the past couple of nites. I woke up and realized I was sleep talking to her. It was so weird. She was actually really upset at the moment because it always takes her like a 1/2 hour to fall asleep again, but in the morning we told our Guatemalan mom about it and we all laughed hysterically. I cannot believe I'm dreaming in Guatemalan!!!

As for the fleas or whatever it was that was in our bed...it wasn't fleas...as we washed and cleaned our room a couple times without them disappearing, today was the first time in like a week Amber and I didn't get any bites while sleeping! Praise the Lord! We still don't know what they were, maybe misquitos, but it's weird because we were bit through pj's and blankets. No one else in our house has the bites though. Anyways, I hope they are gone for good now.

Adios!

Fleas - Pulgas

Well, it had to happen. I have fleas in my bed. There is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night because you have to go to the bathroom and realizing you have got a ton of ichy bites all over your body and then not be able to do anything about it at that moment and therefore have to go back to sleep in the flea infested bed. Well that's what happened to me this week. The next morning I washed my bedding and what not, but they didn't seem to go away and then Amber got them too. So today I laid out my matress and everything in the sun and hopefully they are gone!

This past week we found a seller in the market who is willing to work with us and sell the boots we are working so hard to sell. Now we've just got to put together a marketing plan. Amber and I are definitely keeping ourselves busy. Take care!

Bday Pics

Birthdays!

So this week has been full of bdays/mothers day events. On May 11th was Joselyn's 3rd bday. She is like our little sis and runs around yelling out our names etc. She came to my room the day before her bday and wanted to show me all her new clothing she got for her bday. Not only did she show me, she started putting it all on...on top of her other clothing. It was super cute and as you can see, she is a super cute kid with the most amazing eyes. So we heard she loves pizza which made Amber and I decide we should take her and the fam out for pizza. I think they had a good time. It was a good time to chill with them. Joselyn seemed to like eating the ketchup almost as much as the pizza (they put ketchup on pizza here and in Mexico).

That brings us to day. What day is it??? May 13, not only my dear Grandpa's 80th bday!!! Happy birthday Grandpa! But it is also my cousin Audry's bday and my fave roomate ever's bday...AMBER DESCHENES!!!! Yes, she is now 23 years old, but you would never guess it. jkjk. Anyways, just wanna say I love you all and hope that this day is truly amazing.

So to start off Ambers bday she was surprised/woken up by super loud music at 7 am. After wards we were all treated to once again, the supersweet hot chocolate and this time cookies. It was good times and Amber really was surprised because the day before I asked her how she would feel if she wasn't woken up with this tradition as the plan to do so had been dropped. She was like, "your just saying that aren't you?" and I was like, no, I don't think it's gonna happen. But then... I talked with our mom and said that I didn't think anything was gonna happen and she said she'd make hot chocolate and buy the cookies if I told our friends and they brought the music. So as it turns out, we did it and she was surprised!!! Then we had a relaxing morning and a wonderful lunch and now we are in Antigua and gonna go out for ice cream or smoothies and then look at some art stores. I hope that Amber is able to have a really enjoyable day!

Ok so as I'm waiting for my pics to upload I'm gonna tell you a little funny story that happened to me in Ontario at WalMart. I seemed to have been a bit of a theif. We went shopping and decided to end in WalMart so we had a cart and started putting our stuff in it and all our already purchased bags. The cart was full cuz 3 of us were sharing it. We got in line and paid for everything?? and then walked out. As we were unloading the cart into the trunk. I realized I had totally stolen a piar of flowy capri pants. It was so easy. Anyways, I walked back into the store with the pants, walked to the counter, paid for the pants and walked back out without anyone even noticing. I thought it was rather funny because I was so shocked when I saw the pants in the cart still. Anyways, it's probably a "had to have been there story" but I'm just killing time anyway!

Take care guys!

The Ark and Mothers Day in Guate

Hey everyone!

Well, I had a wonderful time at the Ark meeting the new students and here are some pics of us when we went out for ice cream. I totally forgot how good our ice cream is here in Canada, the creaminess just doesn't compare to Guate!

There are also some pictures of Mothers Day in Guatemala. It was Wednesday, May 10th. No women who are mothers seem to work on this day. School is cancelled and everything. All the moms gathered on our street and they had a little party with a raffle and food. It was funny though because they probably started to gather at like 4 or 5 pm but I don't think it started until like 7 pm. They seem so much more patient here than people would be at home. Or at least compared to me. Anyways I went out with my camera and everyone wanted me to take pictures of them. It was actually kinda funny even, but cute. Feliz Dia de las Madres!

Haircut

Hey,

Well, my hair was in definite need of a good trim and Char volunteered to do it! Here are the pics Gregorio took :) In one of them you can see my look of scepticism as this was one of Chars first times cutting layers, but I think she did an alright job!! Actually those are before pictures not after pics, but it actually doesn't look much different now. jajaja

Back in Canada till May 9

Hey Guys,

Well I arrived back in Canada yesterday after what seemed like a million hours of traveling. You see, Guatemala had a time change yesterday and so we went ahead an hour. Our flight was supposed to leave at 8:25 am so we got up at what was 4 am the new time and therefore 3 am the old time, only to arrived at the airport an hour early because they didn't change the flight time. Then we took our flight and arrived in Dallas where we waited for 4 hours. Amber and I were totally craving Subway, so we searched the airport which is huge by the way, you need to take sky trains to get to different gates, but we eventually found one!!! YEAH Sweet Onion Chicken Teryaki Salad!!! Then we walked around before our next flight which had us arriving in Buffalo at 8:30 pm. We were so excited and wondering who would pick us up, but when we got to the baggage claim, no one was there! We didn't know what to do cuz we didn't have any phone numbers and still had a 3 hour drive to get to Port Burwell. So we waited, and waited and finally an hour later were picked up. We almost thought we'd have to get a hotel. So anyways, we made our way home and stopped by Sobey's to get water and a granny smith apple, so yummy!! We arrived at the Ark (the place where all the summer students are staying) at around 12:30 am. A few of the students stayed up to greet us, thanks guys! and then we hung a bit and went to bed. For some reason our heat was cranked up to 30 degrees so I didn't sleep too well, but it was nice to sleep on a soft bed! So anyways, I'm here safe and sound and all the students are super nice. I think this summer is going to be amazing!

This past Thursday we had a going away party for Kris and Mike. It was a potluck, but I guess that's not such a common thing to do around Guatemala and not everyone brought food. Lucky enough we had enough desert and so no one starved, although I did feel a little sick after from having to fill up on cake rather than real food. It was also funny because no one wanted to be the first to get their food, but then as soon as someone started, they just kinda all scrambled without lining up or anything. It was a new experience for them. It was a fun time and I prepared a little slideshow about Tizate for Mike and Kris which everyone loved. Kris and Mike have now left, and will definitely be missed, Amber and I will now have to watch episodes of Lost on our own!!!

Well, I think that's all for now. If anyone wants to give me a shout while I'm here in Canada, the number at the Ark is 1 519 875-1982. I will be here until May 9.

Take care!
